Definition

Australia's Renewable Energy Target (RET) is a Federal Government policy designed to ensure that at least 33,000 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of Australia's electricity comes from renewable sources by 2020.

The large scale component of the target requires wholesale buyers of electricity to acquire a fixed number of their electricity from renewable sources. This target was achieved in September 2019, though the RET is scheduled to continue until 2030.
